Remember how I told you about how your old manager notified our insurance agent before I had a chance to? Hah! Well, I called the agent today after I got a letter from State Farm. He said there was some information he needed along with my signature.
He needed the cause of death, and then the manner of death.
So here's the conversation I had with him:
Greg, I am very protective of Neil's memory. I know Harry called you to tell you he died, and the last thing I need is two thousand people who used to work with Neil chattering in their gossip circles about it. Neil's own children do not know, and they can't know for many years. So I will tell you if you will keep it confidential, but if you are going to speak to Harry or anyone else about it, I will call your corporate office instead.
Oh, no, everything that happens here is confidential. [which is total bullshit but I don't think he knew what to say to me at that point]
OK. Then you can put suicide under the cause.
OK. And for the manner?
So I told him, Neil. And I threatened him to keep it confidential, and when I show up at his office to sign that goddamned paper this afternoon I will threaten him again. If I find out that Harry or Jason or any of those other bastards you used to work with know the details of what you did, I will sue them all, starting with Greg the insurance agent. That feels good for some reason.
What is it with people thinking they have the right to all the salacious details? Like they would some how change the quality of the facts.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry you have to suffer that along with the rest.
